In poker, players try to make combinations or "hands" of cards that are more valuable or more powerful than the combinations of other players. These combinations are based on the cards' number values, suit, and color. There are usually several rounds during which new cards may be dealt, the players may change the cards they already have, and new bets can be made.
In some poker variants, players can decide to continue or drop out of a round, based on their strategy. At the end of each poker game, the players who are still participating reveal the cards they have in their hands, and the strongest hand wins the game.
