The former Soviet republic, Armenia, is a nation in the hilly Caucasus region between Asia and Europe. It is located south of the Transcaucasia, north of Iran, and surrounded by Georgia and Azerbaijan. The country is defined by religious sites from a view of the initial Christian civilizations. Across the border in Turkey is Khor Virap Monastery, a pilgrimage station.
In total, Armenia’s population is only 2.958 million inhabitants with a land environment of 29,743 square km. Armenia is barely smaller when compared with Belgium or the United States' Maryland. Its capital is Yerevan, which is also the biggest city in the hilly Caucasus region.
